Coach Ben was born in South Korea and moved to Washington as a child.  He is now a 1st degree purple belt at Gracie Barra Edmonds.  He began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on June 27, 2021, as a way to get active, challenge himself, step out of his comfort zone, and build mental and physical discipline.

By day, Coach Ben is a certified home inspector with Bent Oak Pastures Home Inspection.  On the mats, he teaches GB1 Fundamentals classes for teens and adults, especially the early morning sessions from 6:00-7:00 AM, Monday through Friday.

As a dad and self-described “purple hippy,” Coach Ben loves helping others grow through jiu-jitsu in a supportive and positive environment.  What he enjoys most about coaching is watching students build confidence and seeing their progress over time.  Coaching allows him to give back to the community while staying humble and continuing to learn.

Coach Ben is committed to creating a welcoming space where every student can learn at their own pace.  He hopes parents notice their children becoming more confident, focused, respectful, and disciplined both on and off the mats after a few months of training.
