Professor Mark has been practicing Jiu-Jitsu under the Gracie Barra banner for over a decade and a half. He started training in 2009 because he wanted to learn how to defend himself, stay healthy, and connect with others through the Jiu-Jitsu community.

Professor Mark received his black belt in 2015 from Professor Rodrigo Lopes and has served as the Head Instructor at Gracie Barra Edmonds since its opening in 2020. As the Head Instructor, Professor Mark helps lead the academy’s training environment, guides the students and coaching team, and supports the overall growth of the school. He teaches both kids and adults classes at GBE and plays an important role in helping students build strong fundamentals, confidence, discipline, and respect on and off the mats.

Over the years, Professor Mark has developed a wealth of competition and teaching experience. He has earned multiple medals in competition, including several gold medal finishes. Most recently, he placed 1st at the Seattle No-Gi IBJJF Open. His other gold medal achievements include 1st place at the 2024 IBJJF Los Angeles No-Gi Open, the 2023 IBJJF Portland No-Gi Open, and the 2018 IBJJF Seattle Open. He also earned 3rd place at the 2022 IBJJF No-Gi World Championship.

What Professor Mark loves most about coaching is seeing his students improve their lives through Jiu-Jitsu. He hopes to help build confidence in each student and give them skills that support them not only on the mats, but off the mats as well.
